Yesterday was a result of my grumpiness today. Last night at the gym a girl told me I could lose definitely lose some weight. The results of her comments made me really upset and put me in a grumpy mood. Luckily I work with some really great guys and when I told them the story today they were really supportive. Anyways, that was a hiccup in the road and a wake up call. Poopy.
Today I ran 5.3 miles. My hip hurts more when I go at a slower pace so I was doing 8 min miles. Obviously it makes the miles go by faster which is something I needed today because I was pressed for time. Secondly I have been trying to change my stride. For a couple of years I have known Kyle and he has become an awesome runner with great advice. Here is his website: http://www.runningonthewhiteline.com/. The foot strike of mid-sole versus heel striking first is something I have been practicing. I feel weird, but with time I think this will help me (bonus time passes by faster because I am concentrating on how to run).
Alaina - you already did 13.5 miles in two days?!!? Also are you putting up our numbers or how would you like to work this….
Awesome job Emily! Don't hurt yourself my dear... I am also counting cross training. Is that right? I biked 10 miles today.
ReplyDeleteDon't mind me. I'm going to play Mother. What's wrong with your hip? Something the doc or athletic trainers can help with?
ReplyDeleteI just overworked it and hate to NOT put up a number… it's like the biggest loser.. I NEED A NUMBER! I will be taking it easy over spring break because of my schedule at Summit League and HS WBB.
ReplyDeleteDid you want to biking and swimming? I thought misunderstood :) I thought you meant walking/jogging/sprinting/skipping…. I'm flexible. Let me know and I can adjust accordingly.
Hey Emily :)
ReplyDeleteThere's plenty of research showing a mid foot strike may be easier on the body and more efficient. It's not a fix all though. You have to make sure that you are not over striding, bouncing up and down too much, and try to land under your center of gravity.
I am always trying to better my stride. Something I have been working on in the last month is to swing my arms less. This causes reduces upper body torque. More upper body movement makes you off balance and your feet must land more towards your center line. I saw a girl yesterday who's feet were actually landing on the other side of her body!
I agree- let us only count our walking/jogging/sprinting work... no biking in the numbers!
ReplyDelete@ Kyle - Hopefully that girl wasn't me haha! I have a lot to learn and love any advice… thanks!
